Green Computing Independent Study
Computer Port has conducting an independent study of the market’s available options for green computing. By independently verifying and determining the most efficient and reliable of products available, our technicians are able to provide expert advice to local businesses and consumers who are looking to use more energy efficient and environmentally friendly technology in their daily lives.
Components of the study include:
-
Test available integrated energy control features within computer hardware, specifically motherboards, which are reported to show significant gains in efficiency.
-
Test Computer Port systems to determine culprit components that may reduce efficiency and overuse electricity.
-
Determine the most efficient settings for energy saving settings as provided by the operating system and verify their effectiveness.
-
Develop a new Green Line of systems specifically designed to incorporate the latest advances in efficient computing and to reduce the carbon footprint of a computer system by a drastic amount.
-
Internal analysis of power use by systems including public access computers, point of sale systems, and bench systems.
By investigating the efficiency of the available systems presented by the technology industry, Computer Port provides better green computing resources to our customers. This is yet another way Computer Port brings new technology and advancements into the White Mountains Region and upholds the pride of a Mount Washington Valley business.
-
We recycle: paper, cans, glass, plastic & cardboard
-
We upgrade computers whenever possible, versus discarding for a new one
-
When customers do require a new computer, we recycle any usable parts to be used internally for testing, clean the hard drive then dispose the computer and parts to the local transfer station.
-
When computers are used however functional, we work with the customer to donate the equipment to a local nonprofit organization, such as the White Mountain Waldorf School.
-
The White Mountain Waldorf School has a school technology recycling program, which they raise funds. Computer Port donates recyclable laptops, cell phones, ink cartridges and hand held devices to the program.
